In the heartland of Persian culture, Shiraz is a city of sophistication.
The attractions of Shiraz range from exquisite mosques, to mausoleums of great historical significance, to tranquil gardens. No visit will be complete without joining the thousands of locals in the Friday night ritual of strolling and picnicking along the western reaches of Dr Chamran Blvd.
Potentially perilous areas in Iran include the western border with Iraq and the eastern border regions with Afghanistan and Pakistan (Shiraz is located in the southwest, an area considered to be relatively safe). Overland travel to Iraq is not recommended unless you have a death wish.
