In western Honduras, the rainy season runs roughly from May to November. Travel is easier during the dry season (December to April), although if you're into the great outdoors, the wet season provides beautiful lush, green foliage to trek through. Hurricanes are most likely from September to October, though they rarely hit Honduras directly. Copán Ruínas sits up in the mountains, so daytime temperatures are hot, but not overly so by Honduran standards, and the nights are cool.

If you want to time your travels with local festivities, the annual Feria de Copán Ruínas - a huge fair complete with rides and games - is celebrated from March 15 to 20.
