Georgetown's hot and humid climate is tempered by steady ocean winds, making it a pleasant place to visit year-round. Situated below sea level, the city is protected at high tide by a wall, which is also a popular place for locals to hang out and people-watch.
The equatorial climate features high temperatures with little seasonal variation, though coastal breezes moderate the heat. Guyana has two distinct rainy seasons: May to mid-August and mid-November to mid-January. August through October are the hottest months. A secondary (and shorter) dry season occurs between February and mid-April.
