For a down-home breakfast accompanied by excellent river views, I can't go past Big Daddy's Diner. It's up on the third floor and overlooks the marine terminal and swing bridge, so there's always plenty to see from the big picture windows. Fuelled up and ready to go, it's a short stroll to the Museum of Belize, housed in the country's former jail, where I brush up on the region's Maya history, the struggle for independence and other Belizean highlights. Walking back to the centre, I'll definitely be making a stop at the Moon Clusters Coffee House - probably the hippest cafe in the country, and always a good place to catch up on local gossip. Back by the river, I'll take a look in at the Image Factory, home to revolving exhibits of contemporary Belizean art and which houses an excellent book-and-gift shop. Heading south along the sea front, I'll catch some cool breezes and eventually end up at Bird's Isle for an authentic Belizean lunch in a little thatched-roof restaurant. Heading back towards the centre, I'll stop in at the House of Culture, as much for the museum as the lovely restored mansion that houses it. Late afternoon, it's time to do like the Belizeans do and head for the waterfront promenade along the Northern Foreshore. I'll probably stop in for a few drinks on the balcony of the Fayah Haat before making my way for some delicious Indian food at Samathi Restaurant, a little further north. I'll be eating slowly, though - I'll have a few hours to kill before the dance floors at nearby Caesar's and Level start to fill up.
