The Bliss Center for the Performing Arts features on the events calender in Belize City. Both the Belize International Film Festival and the Wilfrid Peters Brok Dong Competition - a contest for the creole music style brukdown - are held here. The September Celebrations are a particularly crazy time of year - celebrations all over the city last from National Day to Independence Day - with a huge carnival parade, bands, parties, music and dancing.

Many public holidays in Belize are moved to the Monday nearest the given date, so people can have a long weekend. Banks and most businesses are closed on these days. Belizeans themselves travel mostly around Christmas, New Year's and Easter - it's worth booking ahead for both transport and accommodation during these times.
