Getting There

Aerolíneas Argentinas (tel: 431 1331; Caseros 475), Southern Winds (tel: 421 0808; España 421) and American Falcon (tel: 422 3100; Zuviría 20) fly daily to Buenos Aires' Aeroparque. Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano (LAB; tel: 431 0320; Caseros 529) flies to Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

Salta's bus terminal (tel: 431 5227; Av Hipólito Yrigoyen), southeast of downtown, has frequent services to all parts of the country. Géminis (tel: 431 7979) goes to destinations in neighboring Chile - it has an office at the terminal. Tur Bus (tel: 431 9719; Syria 638) also makes the trip across the Andes to various Chilean towns. El Quebradeño (tel: 431 4068) goes daily to San Antonio de los Cobres, while Empresa Marcos Rueda (tel: 421 4447) serves the altiplano village of Cachi, departing daily at around , with another limited service departing in the afternoon.

Getting Around

Aeropuerto Internacional El Aybal (tel: 437 5113) is located 9km (5.6mi) southwest of town on the RP 51. Shuttles (tel: 423 1648) leave from the airline offices about 1.5 hours before the flight.

Local bus 5 connects the train station and downtown with the bus terminal on Av Hipólito Yrigoyen, which is southeast of downtown. Bus 13 connects the station with the municipal campground.

Renting a car is a good way to see Salta's countryside. Among the agencies are López Fleming (tel: 421 4143; Paseo Güemes 92) and Dollar (tel: 432 1616; Buenos Aires 88). There are other car-rental agencies next to Dollar if you want to compare prices.
