Getting There

There are flights from Buenos Aires to Mar del Plata. Aeropuerto Félix U Camet (tel: 479 0194, 479 2787; RN 2 Km 396) is 10km (6mi) north of the city.

Mar del Plata's busy bus terminal (tel: 451 5406; Alberti 1602) is very central. Buses from nearly every town run to most destinations in the country. There are generally two departures per week to Patagonian destinations south of Bariloche. Rapido del Sud departs hourly for nearby coastal resorts.

The train station (tel: 475 6076; Av Luro 4700 at Italia) is about 2km (1.2mi) from the beach. During summer, the tourist train El Marplatense travels seven times daily (eight on Sunday) to Buenos Aires. Reservations should be made far in advance, since it's usually booked solid through the season. There are daily departures through the slower seasons as well.

Getting Around

An extensive bus system operates within Mar del Plata. Metered taxis are also commonly used and are considered safe and reliable. Rental cars are available but it is also easy to get around on foot as the town area is quite small.
