Inaugurated in late 2000, the modern Aeropuerto El Calafate (tel: 491 220) is 23km (14.3mi) east of town off the RP 11.
Aerolíneas Argentinas flies to Bariloche, Ushuaia, Trelew and both Aeroparque and Ezeiza in Buenos Aires.
Calafate's hilltop bus terminal (Av Roca) is easily reached by a pedestrian staircase from the corner of Av Libertador and 9 de Julio. Book ahead in the high season, as outbound seats can be in short supply.
Aerobus provides a door-to-door airport shuttle service for a small fee; taxis cost a bit more, but won't break the bank either. There are several car rental agencies at the airport.
The Moreno Glacier is 80km (50mi) west of Calafate via the paved RP 11, which passes through breathtaking scenery around Lago Argentino. Bus tours are frequent in summer; simply stroll down Av Libertador to hook up with one. Buses to the glacier leave in the early morning and afternoon, returning around noon and early evening respectively.
